Welcome to Neve Shalom — An Oasis of Peace
Welcome
to the synagogue Neve Shalom, a link in the chain of Jewish tradition that
is millennia old. It is a large space, much larger than it looks because
when you walk through these doors, you walk into Jerusalem, into Casablanca,
into Minsk, into Salonika, into Strasbourg--into this space where Jews
have sung the same song to G*d for generations. When you enter here, you
have entered a larger space than you see. We belong to something greater
than ourselves.
The Baal Shem Tov used to say, there is no room for
G*d in a person too full of self. Less self, more other, less self, more Other--this
is the dynamic of an emerging spirituality. Synagogue space is large enough
to allow anyone to find their way in, and we have centuries of time on
our side.
Neve Shalom is a membership organization. We depend on your membership
to fund our many activities. We welcome guests.
Here are a few of our current offerings:
- Something different in careful and inventive prayer and learning experiences based on the spiritual resources of Judaism.
- We teach the inner traditions that we believe deepens life and enhances health.
- We host Jacob’s Pillow to spread the sound of Jewish deep soul music, sacred story, and poetry.
- We show emerging and current artists in our gallery.
- We sponsor Shalvah, teaching Jewish spiritual resources that encourage recovery from addiction.
- We sponsor Jewish Prison Outreach.
- We belong to the Committed Caring Faith Communities, training faith groups in addictions awareness and support.
- We create a safe and imaginative environment to teach our children.
- We create our own materials for study and for prayer.
- We sponsor St. Louis Council for Jews with Special Needs.
- We host High Holiday services and Passover Seders open to everyone.
- We created JAMI STL, Jewish Attention to Mental Illness St. Louis
